By emergency order on March 25, Washington’s Insurance Commissioner ordered property and casualty insurers to provide a grace period for the payment of premiums and waive applicable nonpayment fees until May 9. The order also prohibits the cancellation of policies for premium nonpayment unless requested by the insured.

Made in response to Governor Inslee’s proclamation of a state of emergency, the order was deemed necessary to protect the property, safety and welfare of citizens affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
